Roller Driving Tips

Roller
A roller's whole job is compaction. It's used to compact freshly laid gravel, roadbase and pad layers. Rollers come in two main drum types, smooth drum and padfoot, and you pick one to suit the material and the job. All you do is drive forwards and backwards and switch the vibration on, so it's the easiest heavy machine to start on. That's why I'd personally recommend getting the ticket.
Pre-start
Before you start it up, do your pre-start check. There's usually a pre-start checklist card with a QR code in the cabin. Scan it and you can go straight through the checklist and submit your results. Check the fuel, hydraulic and engine oil levels, check the tyres and drum, then go over everything else: oil leak🔒, indicators, mirrors, reversing warning sound, rotating beacon and so on.
